Facebook or Google Ads are Better

Google AdsGoogle ads came first and are the most popular advertising platform on the web. However, Facebook ads are very popular and the most common social media advertisement in the World.

So which one is best?

Well that depends on what you’re trying to accomplish from a marketing standpoint. It’s like trying to compare a hammer and a screwdriver, they both do different jobs and they both are great tools when you need them for a specific task.

Google ads are great for specific searches that people need immediately such as when someone needs a plumber because their pipes are leaking or when they need a auto mechanic because the car just broke down.

Google ads are very similar to the old Yellow Pages phonebook in that they serve up the business right when a customer needs it. Facebook ads on the other hand are good for brand building and they are good for event marketing.

There are two ways to look at Facebook ads, one is in the sense that they build up a brand through notoriety. When people are browsing Facebook they’re not necessarily looking for the ads, however the ads are placed in front of them on their timeline.

This means that most people will notice your ad even if they try not to. This will create brand recognition for your business, but doesn’t necessarily mean it will convert. What does convert well on Facebook are event-based advertisements. If your nonprofit is having an auction with a really cool guest speaker this weekend, that’s the type of ad that will convert really well on Facebook.

On the contrary, Google does not really build brand very well because people are not looking at Google search any other time other than to get something quickly and move on with what they need. That is why specific services do really well with Google ads when they are placed in the search properly.

It can be quite affordable to advertise on Google when the conversion cost is less than 3 to 4X what the conversion will net the business. Now this is a formula that will need to be figured out after running a few ads and deciding if it makes sense to continue a Google ad campaign.

Facebook is very similar in the sense that you can look at the metrics and decide how many people have actually called the business or sent a message to the business and turn into clients based on how much spend has occurred.
